January to April: Peak Season Paradise

If you want the best weather Mexico has to offer, this is it. December through April is the dry season, meaning sunny days, warm temperatures, and little chance of rain. For many this is the best time of year to visit Mexico Coastal destinations like Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos shine during these months, with daily highs in the 80s and cool, comfortable evenings. It’s the perfect time for lounging on the beach, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, or golfing without melting in the heat.

Pros:

✔️ Ideal weather—warm, sunny, and dry
✔️ Best time for whale watching in Baja California and Puerto Vallarta

Cons:

❌ Less Availability: this is peak season, after all
❌ More tourists, especially in popular beach destinations

If you’re planning a winter escape, book early. Resorts fill up fast, and flights can get pricey the closer you get to travel dates. If crowds aren’t your thing, consider visiting in late April when spring breakers have gone home, but the weather is still fantastic.

Easter Heads Up:

Be aware of Holy Week and Easter week.  They fall on different dates every year.  The prices go up because these are premium weeks in Mexico and the resorts are completely full  If you have no option, then plan well in advance to and be prepared to pay a holiday premium.

July to September: Rainy Season and Low Prices

Summer in Mexico can be a mixed bag. If you’re headed to higher-altitude places like Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende, or Oaxaca, you’ll be treated to warm days and cool nights, with occasional afternoon showers to keep things fresh. But on the coasts, July to September means humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and the risk of hurricanes (especially in the Caribbean and Pacific beach destinations).  Resorts can offer discounts and if you don't mind very hot weather, this can work out for you.

Pros:

✔️ Cheapest time to visit—great deals on resorts and flights
✔️ Best time for swimming with whale sharks near Isla Holbox and Cancun

Cons:

❌ Hot and humid, especially on the coasts
❌ Afternoon rain showers are common
❌ Hurricane season (June to November, but peak risk in September)

That said, if you’re flexible and don’t mind a little rain, this can be a great time to explore Mexico at a fraction of the price.

October and November mark the transition from rainy season to dry season, and this is when Mexico really starts to shine again. By mid-October, the humidity starts to drop, hurricane risk fades, and everything is lush and green from the summer rains. Plus, some of Mexico’s biggest cultural events happen in this window. For many in-the-know,  hate-the-crowd types,  this is the best time of year to visit Mexico.

Pros:

✔️ Perfect weather returns—warm days, low humidity
✔️ Lower prices before the holiday rush
✔️ Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations in late October/early November
